Charlotte and Lyla

Dereham Otters Swimming Club took a team of 10 swimmers to the Sprint Meet in Newmarket, gaining valuable racing experience against competitors from other clubs.

The team recorded 11 personal bests from 36 swims and secured five medals, reflecting the swimmers’ commitment and hard work in training.

A highlight of the meet was 18-year-old Charlotte Penney, who competed in her first-ever swimming competition. Charlotte approached the challenge with a positive attitude and achieved her first personal best, a promising start to her competitive swimming journey.

Fourteen-year-old Lyla Egle also impressed, demonstrating determination and promise during a positive meet for the Dereham team.

Head coach Sam Watts said: “It was great to see our swimmers embracing the challenge of sprint racing, gaining confidence and supporting one another throughout the meet. Competitions like this provide valuable experience and help swimmers recognise the progress they are making through their hard work in training.

“Congratulations to all 10 swimmers who represented Dereham Otters. It was particularly pleasing to see Charlotte take her first steps into competitive swimming, and we look forward to building on these performances at future meets.”
