Dereham Otters celebrate medal success at Nifty 50 Meet

Dereham Otters Swimming Club took a small squad of 24 swimmers to the Nifty 50 Meet in Thetford, returning home with an impressive haul of 16 medals – five gold, five silver and six bronze – as well as 33 personal best times.

The results were a strong reflection of the swimmers’ hard work and commitment in training, with athletes producing improvements across a range of events and gaining valuable competitive racing experience.

Among the standout performances were those from nine-year-old Harry and ten-year-old Niamh, who both produced a series of excellent swims. Their performances demonstrated confidence and maturity beyond their years and highlighted the exciting potential within the club’s younger swimmers.

The meet also provided plenty of evidence of the strong team spirit within the squad, with swimmers encouraging and supporting one another throughout the weekend.

Dereham Otters Head Coach Sam Watts said: “I’m extremely proud of the whole team and the way they represented the club, both in and out of the pool. To come away with 16 medals and 33 personal bests from a relatively small team is a fantastic achievement.

“There were some really strong performances throughout the meet, and it was particularly pleasing to see swimmers showing confidence, determination and good racing skills.

“Harry and Niamh both stood out with some excellent swims, and it’s great to see that potential coming through in our younger swimmers.

“Meets like this are really important because they give swimmers the opportunity to gain racing experience, build confidence and see the progress they are making in training. There are plenty of positives for us to take from Thetford as we continue working towards our future competitions and goals.”

The Nifty 50 Meet provided another encouraging weekend for Dereham Otters, with the combination of medal success, personal bests and strong team spirit giving the squad plenty to celebrate as the competitive season continues.
